I was driven to move in the direction of treating those going through breast/chest surgery as a family member of mine was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer. Watching them go through such a life altering experience and witnessing the struggle post-surgery really opened my eyes as to how I, as an RMT could help support those going through such an emotional and physically straining time.
Surgically related breast/ chest massage is directed towards those who have dealt with cancer related breast surgery, such as a Lumpectomy and Mastectomy, breast Augmentations, and those going through a gender transition who have had a form of top surgery. This type of treatment is catered towards each individual, considering the type of surgery, the extent and invasiveness and the symptoms that individuals are experiencing. All the while, helping support patients mentally through their journey.
