September marks 12 moons since I began practicing out of the beautiful & supportive space that is Fort Langley Massage & Holistic Health. I extend this note of gratitude to all my clients, it has been a deep honour to support, witness and encourage you all on your journeys. I am continually inspired by this community and people’s dedication to showing up for themselves and harvesting the benefits of all that integrative and holistic medicine has to offer.
As we relish in the remnants of summer, we find ourselves on the brink of a new season. Autumn. What associations fill your mind when you consider the season to come? Perhaps you are a solar-powered soul, not yet ready to let go of the long days of sunshine. Or maybe, like myself, you are filled with anticipation, ready to clothe yourself in warming wools, light non-toxic candles and sprinkle cinnamon on everything.
All too often I hear of folks dreading the darker seasons, I am met with accounts of achy joints when the rain comes, fatigue that seems to coincide with the seemingly constant cloud cover, and shifts in digestive health & regularity. Not to mention the fear that can be associated with cold & flu season.
Please know, dear Reader, it is entirely possible to thrive in the darker months with grace & ease. Implementing a few simple changes can support your body through this shift immensely.
Late Summer is an important time to lay a vital foundation, supporting our body systems now can provide us with the strength & resilience required to flourish as we adjust to a new season.
This is the time to prioritize truly restorative rest, warming & nutrient dense whole foods (sorry smoothie & salad lovers- cold & raw foods are not helpful during this time!) and mindfulness. What is your body asking you for as we enter Autumn? As I often like to say, the body will speak to us in whispers and subtle signs, it is imperative that we listen and honour our needs, otherwise our body will have no choice but to yell.
So I invite you to check-in with yourself, what is your body asking you for? Immune support? Perhaps deeper sleep, stress reduction or digestive support. Whatever it may be, please know that I am here to offer you comprehensive care and meet you wherever you are at in your journey.
