Oh My Aching Back! ~By Theresa Schmidt, Physiotherapist, BScPT
Ever had back pain? You are not alone. It can be a real pain in the neck. Up to 80% of people will suffer with back pain at least once in their life. But what can we do about it? The back is a complex machine with over 33 bones, 17 discs and hundreds of ligaments and muscles! No wonder things can go wrong at some point! But, the good news is, things can also go very right.
There are many things you can do to help your back pain.
Did you know that there is a special muscle we all have that acts similar to a corset just to support our backs? The key is you need to be able to activate this (and other) muscles at the right time in order to support what your back is doing. And did you know that your hips are intricately linked with your back? This means that if your hips are sore or simply stiff, they can negatively affect your back and even be the root of your back pain.
Back pain can be helped! Whether it be a chronic injury or a pain that has just recently come on, doing the right things for your back can really make a difference. Why not check out my booking page Here to book a physiotherapy session where I can assess your specific issues and help you help your back! What have you got to lose, asides from your pain?
